Spectronik fuel cell technology showcased in public demonstrations and educational hydrogen mobility project

Three hydrogen-powered Citroën Ami vehicles equipped with Spectronik fuel cell technology were successfully showcased and demonstrated in Sanxenxo, Galicia, Spain, during a public hydrogen mobility event held in June 2026.

The vehicles were developed by our Authorized Distributor, H2m Hidrógeno Manufacturado S.L. (H2m), as part of an educational project involving CIFP As Mercedes (Lugo), IES Virgen de la Paloma (Madrid), and CIFP Río Tormes (Salamanca).

Throughout the event, the vehicles were displayed to visitors and industry participants, while also conducting live driving demonstrations on a dedicated circuit. The demonstrations provided an opportunity to showcase the practicality of hydrogen fuel cell technology for compact urban mobility applications.

Each vehicle incorporates the Spectronik Hydrogen Fuel Cell Conversion Kit, comprising:

The Citroën Ami is a compact battery electric vehicle featuring a 5.5 kWh battery pack and a driving range of up to 75 km. By integrating the Spectronik Hydrogen Fuel Cell Conversion Kit, the vehicle's total onboard energy capacity is more than doubled, increasing the theoretical driving range to up to approximately 180 km while enabling fast refuelling of hydrogen gas.

In addition to vehicle demonstrations, visitors were able to view the fuel cell system installation, hydrogen storage system, pressure regulation hardware, and vehicle control interfaces. The project serves as an excellent educational platform for students to gain practical experience in hydrogen energy, fuel cells, high-pressure gas systems, power electronics, and sustainable transportation technologies.

The successful public demonstration highlights the growing interest in hydrogen-powered urban mobility solutions and showcases how hydrogen fuel cells can complement battery electric vehicles by extending operating range while maintaining compact vehicle architecture.

We congratulate our partners at H2m, together with CIFP As Mercedes, IES Virgen de la Paloma, and CIFP Río Tormes, for the successful execution of this innovative hydrogen mobility project and public demonstration.
