Every year, students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) participate in Eco-Marathon competitions globally. The goal is to engineer the world’s most energy efficient vehicles.

Spectronik has specially developed the Protium Eco-Marathon (PEM) Package – designed to eliminate the complexity of Hydrogen fuel cell system integration and help participants focus solely on breaking efficiency records. PEM is available in 2 variants – 300W (PEM-300) for the Prototype and 450W (PEM-450) for the Urban Concept vehicle categories.

We have utilized the same core materials, product architecture and component reliability as the ones used in our military and aerospace programs to ensure that all vehicles powered by Spectronik fuel cells achieve their utmost potential. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
 

No. Our products are designed to comply with Shell Eco-Marathon rules for the Hydrogen fuel cell Prototype and Urban Concept categories to the best of our knowledge. However, please note that the rules are updated from time to time and the onus will be on participants to check the latest rules and regulations.

As we have no control over how customers use our fuel cells (e.g. the Hydrogen gas purity that is fed into the fuel cell), we do not warrant against power output. Prior to shipment, you will receive photos, videos, and Factory Acceptance Test report proving the full power output of your system.

All other BOP components are fully warrantied for 1 year from the date of delivery, unless there is clear sign of mishandling or abuse. Beyond the 1-year warranty period, troubleshooting is free-of-charge and any paid repairs cover material and manpower costs only with no mark-up.

PEM-300 and PEM-450 are typically in stock. Otherwise, lead time is 4-6 weeks upon Purchase Order confirmation and upfront payment.

A lot of teams ask Spectronik for discount and sponsorship. It is unfair for us to only selectively sponsor some, while it is not sustainable to sponsor everybody. Therefore, for first time customer, we adopt a strictly no discount/sponsorship policy.

However, for repeat customers who consistently use Spectronik’s fuel cell for at least 2 years, we will consider a deeper collaboration on a case-by-case basis, such as our Sponsorship Agreement with HAN Hydromotive.

Beyond a competitive product, Spectronik believe we are the best partner for Shell Eco-Marathon teams due to the following:

  1. Unlimited remote technical support via zoom: our engineers can provide technical support via zoom call to help you throughout the system integration process, answer questions regarding the Hydrogen fuel cell, and give feedback and advice from previous competition experience.

  2. On-site support during competition days: if there are more than 2 teams using Spectronik fuel cell in a Shell Eco-Marathon competition, Spectronik will send a representative to provide on-site assistance, as well as a spare fuel cell system for backup. This gives you a peace of mind that you will be able to complete the race.

  3. Cash reward: US$1,500 (1st place), US$1,000 (2nd place) and US$500 (3rd place) for teams that use Spectronik fuel cell and finish on the podium at Shell Eco-Marathon competition to reward you for your great efforts! (Terms and Conditions apply).

Please note that we will seek your permission to post this on our official website and social media channels.

PEM-300 and PEM-450 are not open-source systems and are not designed for such modifications. However, advanced users can choose to do so at their own risks. Please note that warranty will be void and Spectronik cannot give any technical advice on the proposed modifications.

Yes, but the technical merit and feasibility will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. As we do not foresee mass manufacturing of your custom design, your system may cost significantly more than the standard PEM-300 and PEM-450. Please plan your schedule accordingly as any custom fuel cell will need at least 6 months from design, production, assembly and testing.
